We had a guest speaker in the 10th grade yesterday. Mr. Gabor is an elder at the International Chapel of Vienna (the church where we have been attending) and was invited to come in and share his experiences living under the rule of the Soviet Union.
He told us about the lengths that the Soviets went to to keep the people in their occupied areas. After showing how dangerous it would be for people to try to leave, he shared how he crossed the border in a sleeping bag on the floor of a VW van. After receiving political asylum within a few weeks (average time was 1-2 years) he made his way to the States where he went to college (after learning English by watching Sesame Street!). He later returned to Europe as a missionary, broadcasting the Gospel through the Iron Curtain. What an amazing testimony of God's provision and guidance.
