PFO - Friday July 2nd

Hey Everyone...another long day under our belts...although we definitely had some downtime, and a chance to connect with friends, see the beauty of some of the local sights, and have some good fellowship with a new friend.

We continued our sessions focused on our transition and the process of entering a new culture...we have been learning a lot about "becoming they"; strengthening our skills of observation in order to adapt and share in the culture that we will be serving in. Here are some pictures of us in "class"...

Lately we've been sitting up high, in the back of the lecture hall...makes it a little bit easier to get to the restroom :)

Our row-mates...Amanda (Vienna), Channon and Joe Overby (Vienna), and Dan (Taiwan)...

Justin with a table-full of his new friends, enjoying their lunch in the cafeteria

Later, after a "picnic" BBQ dinner out on the quad, we had the opportunity to visit Letchworth State Park (apparently known as the "Grand Canyon of the East"). I hope you enjoy the pictures...Here is Justin and Dalton enjoying the bus ride together

Rebecca and I on the bus to the aforementioned state park

A very nice family picture in front of the upper falls and a trestle that was apparently stolen from some gorge in Africa (or something like that). You can see the trestle better in the second picture in the sequence...

A picture of Katie (Vienna) and our new friend Marc (we had him over for snacks after we got home...he's from Wales and is heading to North Africa...cool guy with an interesting story). They were "peaking" over the edge of a footbridge for a picture by a photographer standing lower on the path...I thought it looked like they were throwing up over the side. Sometimes I am wrong.

The following sequence of pictures is of the path to a viewpoint. It was very steep. We joined the Basnett family as we bravely went up the stairs, threw rocks into the gorge, and then walked backed down the stairs...

We ran into some hot air balloons preparing to take human beings into the air...two balloons on the ground, first one in the air, both balloons in the air...enjoy!

Some more pics of the Letchworth State park...waterfalls and such...aren't they "gorgeous"?

So, that's it. Hope you enjoyed the pictures...it was great to be able to enjoy the majesty of God's creation and rest for a while...

He has been working so powerfully in us and our fellow participants...we ask that you continue to pray for our journey, and that of our friends, as we patiently seek God's will. We are all a bit overwhelmed with the magnitude of the calling and our absolute inadequacy if not for His Grace and Spirit. We all need patience and continued energy for the second half of the course...

Until tomorrow's post...

and baby makes four...

that's right...our little family will soon become a foursome. We have found out that Rebecca is 6 weeks pregnant! There is definitely "something in the water" as all the families that live within our block have recently had a baby or are currently pregnant. Our baby will be the 6th baby born to ICSV staff in a span of less than a year (first one was born in early November and we will be welcoming our new addition in September). So, kind of unexpected, but a pleasant surprise nonetheless!

Who are these kids at ICSV...

Hi everyone... The first week and a half of school has been absolutely amazing! We have had some great opportunities to begin building lasting relationships with the students that God has brought to Vienna to be educated at the International Christian School of Vienna. Rebecca has been adjusting well to her role as secondary secretary. She is learning quickly the many demands of her new role and is doing quite well in supporting us teachers and the rest of the staff. Rebecca hard at work I have been really enjoying my classes. I have a total of 43 students spread out over 4 periods. The students I have represent 14 different home nations, with many of the students who are "Austrian" are first generation, so they are of other nationalities as well.  I have also had the opportunity to begin working with the soccer team...again, many nationalities are represented on the field, truly an international squad. Here are some pictures of the team training at the local club...

A Plea For Forgiveness (when you realize you've got it all wrong)

Whew...it's been an interesting couple months. As I shared in the last update, God has already fulfilled a major part of the initial vision for using Baseball for His glory in Kosovo. Beyond even our lofty (at least in my mind) expectations. As I was processing all this upon my return, I found myself in an interesting place. I was amazed by the way God fulfilled this part of the vision. Six independent clubs now exist in Kosovo! A National Federation! WOW! God is doing some amazing things beyond my imagination. I was hopeful and joyful, and yet, I found myself slipping in to despair, and then depression. I was energized...and yet couldn't motivate myself to work. I had vision...but wouldn't see what God was doing. (In fact, I started writing a blog to process this all...and am shocked by my shortsightedness. I never posted it, but I would be "happy" to share it with you privately if you want...shoot me an email ) I wanted to embrace the challenges...bu...
